I named myself the Craven Maven but you can call me Saer.
Ahh food, some would say I talk about it incessantly, cook it way too many times a day and take pictures of it so often that if the NYPD raided my home and confiscated my laptop, I’d likely be charged with 10,083 counts of possession of ‘indecent material’ because it’s just not natural for someone to own that many images of food without having some sort of tawdry problem. That being said, the other thing I love as much as food is good design. As life would have it I am an abysmal designer but have always had a good eye for objet’s and concepts that reflect good aesthetic and wit.
It is the pairing of these two loves that gave birth to the blog Craven Maven.
Sure, I could write recipes and post pictures of my kitchen exploits but there are way too many great blogs out there already doing that { see my blog roll }. Instead, I choose to share with you food from alternate perspectives: olfactively { inspired by my previous life working in the fragrance development industry } , musically, conceptually and graphically.
I keep my food politics largely to myself – though am pro local produce and ethical eating. Having being born in London to a family of Jamaican farm folk and currently residing in the USA, my food tastes and philosophies are often all over the map but they are always pro REAL food and ardently in favour of home cooking.
A little about the name Craven Maven : ‘Craven’ is Jamaican slang for someone who is ‘greedy’ especially with regards to food. ‘Maven’ is someone who is an ‘expert or connoisseur’ of whatever field they are associated with. It’s a self inflicted moniker that sums up who I am.
Enjoy this blog for what it is, a fun and yummy distraction from the day to day to stimulate the senses but especially the mental tastebuds..oh those tastebuds!

/ July 26, 2011I found you in Kinfolk magazine. I was previewing the mag for possible subscription. I didnt. I love food, cooking and all things culinary. However, when making decisions for new interests, the first thing I look for is images of me. Didn’t see any in Kinfolk, so my assumption is that Kinfolk doesnt know me, doesnt’ want to know me or doesn’t think I’m important enough to know. Almost at the end, I saw your picture as a contributor, which lead me to Craven Maven blog. The blog interests me. Kinfolk must be for someone else.

/ August 26, 2011Woah! I’m really loving the template/theme of this site. It’s simple, yet effective. A lot of times it’s very difficult to get that “perfect balance” between superb usability and visual appearance. I must say you’ve done a fantastic job with this. Also, the blog loads extremely quick for me on Internet explorer. Superb Blog!

/ October 4, 2011I’m truly enjoying the design and layout of your blog. It’s a very easy on the eyes which makes it much more enjoyable for me to come here and visit more often. Did you hire out a developer to create your theme? Excellent work!
